Vance Gilbert
"the voice of an angel...the wit of a devil, and the guitar playing of a god."
- Fort Worth Star-Telegram

"His catchy, pop-friendly melodies support keenly crafted, hard-hitting lyrics. His guitar is supple, his milk-warm tenor honest and gently acrobatic...He does not duck hard truths and never succumbs to the temptation to tie his points up in neat platitudes or truth-isms. He writes powerfully and uncompromisingly about the wrenching separation suffered by single parents, the tug between love's desire and its demands, and the bitterness of being nonwhite in this Eurocentric culture...He is that rare performer for whom people lean forward in their seats as eagerly between songs as they do during them."
- The Boston Globe

Vance continues to refine his unlikely union of humor, virtuosity, and the unexpected. Whether with classic, original songwriting or ageless interpretation of covers, his is a presentation steeped in deep humanism and bravery, stunning artistry and soul, and contagious, unbridled joy - inarguably the blue ribbons that tie and seal the seemingly impossible package that is ...VANCE GILBERT

Vance Gilbert burst onto the singer/songwriter scene in the early 90's when the buzz spread through the folk clubs of Boston about an ex-multicultural arts teacher who was knocking them dead at open mics. Word got out about this Philadelphia-area born and raised performer, and Shawn Colvin invited Gilbert to be a special guest on her 1992 tour. Gilbert took audiences across North America by storm.

Many of Gilbert's albums are essential additions to the American singer-songwriter collection. His 2000 album, Somerville Live, was lionized by the Boston Globe as the disc "young songwriters should study the way law students cram for bar exams." The Boston Globe placed his 2005 album, Unfamiliar Moon, #4 on its list of the Top 10 CDs of the year, calling it "The songwriter's most compelling work; literate, heartfelt, rippling…emotionally resonant songs."

Gilbert was tapped for a year and a half as support for George Carlin, leading up to the creation and recording of Up On Rockfield (2008), a landmark album noted for being written in the styles of some of his favorite songwriters. Of this disk, Vintage Guitar proclaimed that “His fervor for composing is as powerful as a Colorado thunderstorm...accomplishing the seemingly impossible...Up On Rockfield should be on your must hear list.”

And now, his latest, Old White Men, makes album number ten in Vance’s ever growing, glowing catalogue.
