WORK O039 THE WEAVERS to benefit Child Abuse Prevention Center of NY
Work o' the Weavers (James Durst, David Bernz, Martha Sandefer & Mark Murphy) gathers once again to celebrate the inestimable legacy of The Weavers: Pete Seeger (1919-2014), Fred Hellerman, Ronnie Gilbert & Lee Hays (1914-1981) in this, his Centenary year. Since 2003, Work o' the Weavers has shared their affectionate homáge with enthusiastically participatory audiences of all ages in 28 states, Canada and Israel. Faithful to their original arrangements, WotW evokes the spirit of America's pioneering folk quartet, not only singing the beloved familiar songs (e.g., Tzena Tzena, Goodnight Irene, Kisses Sweeter Than Wine, Wimoweh, So Long, It's Been Good To Know Yuh, etc.), but also interweaving an edifying narrative that places the songs in historical perspective originating with the Depression and the Dust Bowl, the Cold War, McCarthyism, HUAC and the Blacklist, through to The Weavers' triumphant 1955 Carnegie Hall reunion concert that gave heart to a generation, providing the foundation upon which countless subsequent folk performers would build. And at the behest of Pete Seeger himself that they not just look back nostalgically, but rather be forward-looking - forward-singing!, WotW has introduced newer songs into the repertoire that The Weavers might be singing today. Rousing, refreshing, relevant!
"Four wonderful people who've picked up where The Weavers left off. Fantastic!" --Pete Seeger
