Preview "There's a Future In the Past"
364 Manville Rd., Pleasantville, NY
Preview of selected scenes from our documentary-in-progress plus a live set with Vince and the Nighthawks
For 40 years Vince Giordano has fronted his virtuosic big band—actually, he conducts, sings, and holds down the rhythm on string bass, tuba, and bass saxophone. Decked out in crisp tuxedos, the Nighthawks blast out the dance music that served as the soundtrack of American life from the 1920s through WWII. There’s a Future in the Past chronicles Vince’s efforts to find gigs, save vintage arrangements from the dumpster, catalog his 60,000 scores, and pick up side sessions to pay the rent.
Q&A with filmmakers Dave Davidson and Amber Edwards of Hudson West Productions and bandleader Vince Giordano followed by a live set featuring Vince and the Nighthawks playing hot jazz and big band music.
Vince Giordano has performed with his Nighthawks in New York nightclubs and countless concerts as well as in film and on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. The Nighthawks present their “erupting wellspring of euphoria” (New York Times) weekly at Iguana NYC.
