Opportunities for Artists

"Westchester's Greatest Hits"

Friends,

Tribes Hill is producing a concert at the Tarrytown Music Hall showcasing the talents of musicians, songwriters, and composers who have called Westchester their home. We are inviting musicians from Tribes Hill to participate by either contributing a song written by a notable Westchester resident, past or present, or by joining an ensemble.

"Westchester's Greatest Hits" will take place on Sunday September 28, 2008 at 3pm in the afternoon. We will have two sets, each approximately one hour long, with a 20-30 minute intermission. These songs will be performed by either an individual artist or band, as a collaboration between the various artists participating, or by a choral ensemble of Tribes Hill artists. Gandalf Murphy and Sloan Wainwright will headline the event.

The following notable musicians, singer-songwriters, and composers who have at some point in their life called Westchester County their home are examples of musicians whose work may be covered in the show: Walter Becker (Steely Dan), Don McLean, Steven Tyler (Aerosmith), Peter Frampton, Dar Williams, Loudon, Rufus and Sloan Wainwright, Tim Rice / Alan Menken, Dave Matthews, Aaron Copeland, David Bromberg, Bonnie Raitt, Lee Hays, Paul Robeson, Benny Goodman and more...

Our objective is to educate our community about the rich musical heritage of Westchester County in a fun and entertaining way, and at the same time to introduce the region to many talented musicians living in their own backyard whom they may not be aware of. Our event printed program will include historical information about the artists whose songs we choose to present.

In addition, our show will be video-taped for continued viewing on select Westchester community cable stations following the event. This will help maximize the impact of our project on our region. It should be noted that a "no budget" video production of our 2005 Tribes Hill Solstice was nominated for "Best Program" at the Annual LMC-TV Awards Night at the Emelin Theatre on 5/25/06.

This project was made possible by the Arts Alive program of the Westchester Arts Council, with funding from the Decentralization Program of the New York State Council on the Arts. As such, all profits will be shared among the artists.

Those artists interested should respond to this email or posting by emailing the 3 following email addresses with three (3) song suggestions with appropriate artist participation by June 18. Collaborations and ensemble pieces that embody community are most desired. Winning submissions will be announced via a posting on the bulletin board page of our web site by July 16.
