Pleasantville Music Festival Invitation

Dear Tribes Hill member,

You are invited to participate in the Third Annual Pleasantville Music Festival held on July 14th. Please read the details below and respond to this invitation by 5/07/07.

On the Main Stage:

Tribes Hill will be opening the day at 12 noon on the main stage with a 95th birthday tribute to Woody Guthrie lead by Hope Machine. We will feature songs written by Woody and original songs written by members of Tribes Hill in the spirit of the great troubadour.

-Fred Gillen Jr. and Steve Kirkman will lead Tribes Hill members for the closing set (6:00-8:00) at our Annual meeting on June 9th. They will use this opportunity to rehearse songs for the festival. If you would like to participate in the main stage set at Pleasantville you will need to be available for this event.

-If you have a song that is "universal", simple to learn, and would be suitable for a large chorus of people to sing and you would like to submit it for consideration in the set send an mp3 to Fred (fredgillenjr@yahoo.com) before May 15

On the Acoustic Stage:

We will be producing the Acoustic stage featuring musicians from the area and sets of Tribes Hill members working in a collaborative effort exemplifying the spirit of Tribes Hill. This year the artists of the acoustic stage will be donating their talent to raise money to put regional music into libraries. These artists will also receive a portion of free tickets to the festival, which they may sell or give away at their discretion.

-If you would like to participate in or put together a set with other Tribes Hill members for the Acoustic stage please respond to this e-mail by Monday 5/07/07 with the following.

-Let us know if you have an idea about who you would like to collaborate or share the stage with.

-Also include a brief (3 lines) bio telling us who you are for submission in the program.

-If you are selected to perform you will be expected to spend the 30 minutes following your set at the merchandise tent.

-You will be able to place you cd's for sale at the tent.

The acoustic stage will run from 1:00 till 8:00. Sets will be 25 minutes long with 5 min. for changing. The selection committee will be choosing from Tribes Hill submissions and other regional musicians who have submitted their music for consideration to the organizers of the festival. We will notify accepted performers by 5/15/07

Merchandise Tent:

We will also be running the Merchandise tent; setting up our tent, selling merchandise throughout the day and breaking down the tent at the end of the day.

-If you would like to volunteer in the merchandise tent respond to this e-mail by May 30th and let us know.

-Please include your name, phone number, and any time constraints you may have for the day.

Overview:

The 3rd Annual Pleasantville Music Festival will be held on July 14, 2007 on Parkway Field in Pleasantville, New York and is being presented by the Peak radio station 107.1. Last year's event hosted nearly 30 artists on two stages and featured such notables as World Party, Roger McGuinn (the Byrds) and Dar Williams. The Pleasantville Music Festival is dedicated to hosting original music with an emphasis on regional performers. This year the Festival's key charitable partner is The Northern Westchester Shelter, a private non-profit organization, which was founded in 1980 to provide a safe haven and caring services to survivors of domestic violence.

Tribes Hill has joined forces with the administrators of the Pleasantville Music Festival for the last three years. This year the artists of the acoustic stage will be donating their talent to raise money to put regional music into libraries. The program was developed in response to the New York's Music Fund request for programs financed by a settlement of the payola scandal. Although we did not receive the grant through our fiscal partner Folk Alliance, Tribes Hill is dedicated to implementing parts of this proposal and seeking funding elsewhere. The Music to Libraries Fund is discussed at greater length on the Bulletin Board of the Tribes Hill site.

On behalf of the Directors of the Pleasantville Music Festival, it is with hopeful anticipation that I request your participation.

Best wishes,

Rick Rock - Tribes Hill, Director
